No Fees, No Commissions, No Referral Network and most of all;
No sending in a referral Officiant! |
|
|
|
Sadly, the wedding industry is a business, A BIG BUSINESS and
this business philosophy and the idea of making a lot of money has moved into
the ceremony Officiant side of the wedding world. Quick online ordinations, no
formal training and even some vendors offering Officiant services on top of the
other services. I met one that does it all, they are a DJ, and if they cant be
your DJ, they are your videographer, Wait, you don't need that, why they are
even photographers, Oh, you don't need that, they are coordinators, Oh gosh, you
don't need that huh? Wait, they are an officiants too!, |

I don't make friends with the following statements. (The only
ones that get angry at me are the ones that practice this) Now you
know. |

Referral Networks |
- Some Officiants have started their own referral
businesses of local Officiants so...... no matter what, they will be there
for your big day only to send in someone from their network at the last
minute because of one reason or another...Sadly, they never intended to be
there for you.....they charge you one fee and then have an "associate" do
the ceremony and pay them a little less. They book the gig and make a few
bucks.
- They are not available for your ceremony but would be
happy to have a "Wonderful Officiant" call you or search for one on your
behalf. In most cases the Officiant calling you is having to pay a small
referral fee to get your contact information and in some cases; will pay a
percentage of the ceremony fee back to the referral network. They have to
pass that cost on to someone...I wonder who?

The Infamous "Preferred Vendor List" |
- There are a few wedding location sites that have in-house
coordinators that give you their Preferred Vendors list. A few things happen
here; 1) Nothing, they really like the vendors on their list and want you to
at least know who they have worked with in the past that meets their
standards. OR
|
- 2) the vendor pushes the ceremony location in return. 3)
The vendor charges a little more to give a "kickback". 4) The location
actually charges a fee for the gig by including the vendor in "package" rate
and actually pays the vendor much less than their normal rate but you still
pay the same or more. 5) Their husband/wife/partner/friend/daughter/son is
the preferred vendor. 6) Only allow their selected vendors PERIOD (more than
likely for more than a few reason stated here.......Very sad.

I don't pay anyone to recommend me, I don't give a kickback for
recommending me, I don't allow for anyone to contract my services other than the
couple directly. I don't work for anyone other than my couple. Lastly, the only
people I recommend for services are professionals I have worked with on a
regular basis, used at my daughters wedding or my own wedding. Just thought you
should know what's happening in my world, can you imagine what's happening with
DJ's - Photographers- etc. |
